I also don't like that now details about Ignite (Dedicated) plans are left out. You always had hardware details before, SATA or SAS drives, RAID1 or RAID 10 (hardware), now there are no details available and I would like to know what hardware is used for those Ignite packages.

For example differences between RAID1 and RAID10 or hardware and software RAID or between SATA and SAS drives are really huge...

Please add those details for Ignite packages to your web site.

Thanks.

Thanks for your feedback. On the site redesign we were trying to make things a bit easier to read for those people that were not entirely technical and did not care about all of those details.

As always you can email us and we can give you the technical details... we are in no way trying to hide that.

I will see if we can find a way to include those details on the site without hurting readability in the future.

That is just how some people (like me) look on it... When I see that some info is missing on a web site I always first presume that something is hidden for a reason, and I don't like that and it usually turns me away from that site/service... That is not something I would expect from PowerVPS, and that is why I suggest you to add every single detail to your web site...

You can always add those details as an additional page/link "techncal details" so if someone don't care he doesn't have to click there, but if someone is looking for precise details about service it should be there...

Indeed, about time you did then to bring up-to-date :-)

Thank you for the great comparison with Rackspace cloud server offering.
What about their "cloud sites" product.
http://www.rackspacecloud.com/cloud_...products/sites
That one seems to not have all the issues mentioned, or have I missed something?

Lastly, I asked "... is it not misleading to call it 'cloud hosting' ?" in relation to your new Fuse offering.

I will initiate migration for one of my VPS's here to the new platform over the week-end. The other has most of my client sites on it, so I will see how this one goes before deciding on that one.

Is there a good guide on how best to do this and minimise the downtime please?

Many thanks,

- Vince

I agree, and this will be added at some point (hopefully soon).

Thanks for the suggestion!

It looks like their cloud sites product is more of a shared hosting play... you can't customize the modules for PHP, no tomcat, no SSH, etc... there are situations when I'm sure this will work for people, but most of our customers get their own server for a few big reasons, one of those being that you can customize all the applications on the server to your liking, not the provider's.

In regards to calling it cloud hosting... there is no real definition of the cloud. It depends on who you talk to. So no, it isn't misleading as our control panel allows you to scale up and down at any time using the resources available in the "cloud".

Regarding a good guide... I made this earlier this year and covers how to move everything over in 30 days, minimizing downtime, etc. I will attach it to this post. In reality you could make this a 7-14 day process and still have almost zero downtime, but you want to make sure to plan it out and not just "do it".

I hope it helps.

PS: It looks like the forum will not allow me to attach the file for one reason or another. If you could send an email to support in my attention I can get it to you.
